One of the "Seven Wonders of Oregon," Wallowa Lake is a majestic destination at the base of the Wallowa Mountains. Tucked into the northeast corner of Oregon, this little slice of heaven has become a home for us and we'd love to share it with you.
Our little barn house is as cozy as can be. A simple studio, 700 square feet with 1 bathroom, it is a tight squeeze to accommodate guests, but we get creative with space and welcome visitors. In the summertime, the garage is a rustic option with cots and the yard has plenty of space for camping.
We know these options aren't for everyone, so there are some other lodging options for you to consider, including the Wallowa Homeland Farmhouse!
In town within an easy walk from the house
At the lake
The Wallowa Lake Lodge offers a classic alpine lodge feel and is open May – October, located on the south end of the lake
Nearby Trouthaven Cabins has adorable family cabins for rent
Other lakeside options include Eagle Cap Chalets and Flying Arrow Resort
And camping! So much camping
Wallowa Lake State Park is close by, tucked in on the west side of the lake – plus yurts!
Hurricane Creek Campground is at the trailhead of a beautiful trail; closer to Enterprise, OR
Finally, we have a long driveway with a complete RV water/electric hook-up option on-site at our house! Since you have to drive here anyway, bring your hotel on wheels:
Directions
From Portland, about 5.5 hours total taking I-84 to La Grande, I-82 to Joseph. An alternate route is to take Highway 11 and Highway 204 between Pendleton and Elgin, over Tollgate.
From Boise airport, you have two options. The first is I-84 to La Grande, then I-82 to Joseph. It is about 3.5-4 hours and is the fastest way to go, all highway but still beautiful. The other way is to go over the Snake River at Oxbow Dam and then drive through the Wallowa Mountains, 5 hrs and 15 min (or longer considering you are likely to stop for Blue Hole swimming).
If traveling via La Grande, consider a stop at the Hot Lake Lodge. It was taken over by new owners 2 years ago and they've been revamping the hotel and the pools and just recently opened up to day soaking. We haven't been there yet, but have heard from neighbors here that it is nicely done. https://hotlakelodge.com/
